College: Fantasy or Reality

Shahien Nasiripour starts off his article by saying what the government plans on doing about the student loan crisis and how much it will cost students. He brief in what actually took place on Wednesday when Senate approved the new federal student loan program. He enhances the article by adding comments from various senators, all of which said that college should be made more accessible to students rather than make it more expensive. On top if that he adds statistics at how much of a profit will the new program generate and how much will it cost students and their families. He emphasizes the importance of shearer education by adding statements from senators who fell this will only make the college process more difficult. I can relate to this struggle since my brother will be starting college in the fall. Like almost every family in America we had to get financial aid and take out loans. Even then that was not enough. Why is it that college is becoming more of a fantasy rather than a reality financially? Everyone should enjoy college and that process of finding out who you are and continuing that hour ey. More bills being passed or programs out into place will only cause tuition to rise and the likely hood to college fall. The raising of tuition prices and my family's own personal experience makes me wonder if I will have the opportunity to go to college without having to constantly worrying about how will I pay for my school or when will I lay it off? Rather than make a new system that will only cause prices to go up, the Senate should promotes new bills that will decrease the price if college and make it a reality to all student regardless if their financial background. http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/3648747/

  1. First off, I think you should proofread your blog post before posting. Little spelling and grammar errors detract from your content, which is actually rather good. I like how you brought in a personal example. I also like the topic you chose; it is very relevant to all of us as students. This last comment is really a nitpick, but I think you should separate out your paragraphs. Reading a big text-block isn't nice on the eyes.

  2. Hi Aisha :) I also agree with Joanne about proofreading your commentary. I think you were in a hurry, and it shows. That being said, this article was an interesting read. It is absurd that college loans are turning into a national business. The government should not be benefiting at the cost of the financial burden of US families. I appreciated your discussion of the author's different rhetorical strategies.

  3. I like how you embedded the summarization and analysis together, and then input your commentary towards the end. There are some minor details but your opinions made up for that. Your article choice is really interesting and such a huge issue for those of us planning on attending college. And I agree with your statement; I honestly do not how I’ll pay for college. Maybe rob a bank? Just maybe. Great post by the way!
